When swine flu hit back in 1976, everyone got his or her flu shot and since then, my family and I have never missed a season and seldom has one of us gotten common colds, much less the flu so get immunized

We must remember that when President Ronald Reagan was in office, one of the things he did in exchange for lower tax rates was that tip employees had to declare a considerable portion of their daily tips to their employer which would count towards their taxable income. This ended up hurting many of these people just as we could no longer pay cash under the table to kitchen personnel if they were willing to work overtime sans regular overtime pay.

WINTER SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,424 AT THE AICP-END

235 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Getting your flu shot can be extremely helpful

Pasadena, CA 91101, 03-16-2020 Monday:  Good morning from beautiful Pasadena, California.  Friends, I can see that I made the switch from the Democratic Party to the GOP just in time as members of my former party seem to be going berserk over the COVID-19 virus.  I have never seen anything like this.  I recall something going on back in the 1970s, when county health departments were encouraging everyone to get a flu shot.  As I remember, flu shots were either just beginning to become available to the general public (although I could be wrong on this) and that the driving force behind the push to get them was some manner of ‘swine flu,’ the H1N1 virus.

At the time, everyone was being encouraged to go out and get the shot and I being a proud American went out and got mine.  After all, IF I could get immunized against something that was as big a pain in the ass as getting either the stomach or the bodily flu- or both- during the season, how great would it be if I got the shot and got neither?

I must report that the advent of the influenza immunization was a good thing, especially for folks such as me who work in the foodservice industry.  As you know, restaurant and bakery employees hate getting sick as we hate letting down our fellow foodservice employees/workers.  Professional foodservice is akin to being in the military in that if one gets sidelined due to injury or sickness, they want to get back in the fight as quickly as they can.

Thus, many workers show up with colds and the flu and we foodservice professional managers have to determine who can and who cannot work.  We no more want to have a worker transmit a cold or other illness to you, our guest than we would want a similar sick employee transmitting a cold or flu to us if we are dining in another establishment.

Add to that the fact that many times in professional foodservice, particularly in non-government or non-union operations, if one misses work, one might not get paid.  This can be a real pickle for floor staff, i.e., waiters/waitresses and bussers, missing 2, 3, or more days from work can be especially costly, especially in houses where tips make up the bulk of one’s pay.

You see, this was the normal way of doing things prior to 1981 as if we lacked enough employees or the ones available were of low quality and we needed the line cooks to work 12-hour days or seven-day weeks, we would pay them every hour above the weekly maximum in cash, ‘under the table.’  Thus, they did not have to pay taxes on the income and we didn’t have to pony up our matching share to the federal, state, and local tax collectors.

Those days are long gone which is sad for, well, everyone, just as it is for other cash industries such as house painters, handymen, gardeners, you name it, many people used to be in the cash economy but thanks to Uncle Sam’s hand in everything, there is very little commerce that takes place on a cash basis.  Sex workers?

Therefore, it is important never to get sick nor to miss work and so immunizations make it all worthwhile.  Since 1976, as I recall, I have never missed a flu shot and my family and I encourage our employees to get their immunizations and to keep up-to-date which they do.  We encourage YOU to get them, too.  Stay healthy and stay safe and remain vigilant when it comes to the “Wuhan Virus” as my friend, the BIG CHILE, said last week.

Thanks for joining me today; we will pick back up tomorrow.  God bless and get immunized as at least, you won’t have to worry about getting the flu which might prevent you from getting the coronavirus. .

Just saying!

Thanks to the Wuhan Virus, Mr. Trump- time to declare Big Pharma (and other critical industries) vital national security interests and bring them home

Back to China, we don’t need no stinking lesson. We need you to straighten up and play right. Of course, that is not possible. NO communist nation will ever play straight. As I and other chef-authors here at the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day have pointed out that communists are like Muslims: it’s okay to lie to non-believers or in the case of the commies, to non-fellow travelers.

WINTER SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,423 AT THE AICP-END

IF CHINA MAKES OUR DRUGS, WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE?

236 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

We must support President Trump- he’s the only one fighting for us…

Shafter, CA 93263, 03-15-2020 Sunday:  Now, we hear from the liberal news media- of which, I partake (ooh, look at the fancy word I used, mis amigos)- that if we call the Wuhan Virus the “Wuhan Virus,” we are somehow hurting the feelings of our Chinese ‘friends.’  We also hear that it’s racist and I guess that since I have come out as a Trump supporter, I am now on the ‘list’ of public enemies.  The funny thing about all of this is that I don’t care, the COVID-19 mess came straight out of China and is sweeping the world.

Here is something else I have been thinking about: how long ago did we allow Big Pharma to move our drug manufacturing plants to China?  Two presidential administrations?  Three?  Four?  Or more?  And, since we allowed BIG PHARMA to move to communist China, WHY then are our medications so frigging expensive?

This is the mind-blowing thing.  Why hasn’t the U.S. government declared BIG PHARMA a national security issue like our oil and natural gas industries were up through World War II?  Why isn’t BIG PHARMA locked down here in the United States making our drugs for domestic consumption first and then selling them abroad instead of China making our medications and then threatening to cut them off to ‘teach the United States a lesson?’

There was a time when steel production and rare minerals and uranium and other things central to national security ONLY came from the United States.  There used to be a Hopper steel mill in Bakersfield, California, off Union Avenue that eventually disappeared sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s.  My brothers tried to go to work there and one of them did.

I guess it became cheaper to produce steel in other rathole countries like- wait for it- the People’s Republic of China.  The steel the Chinese and the Europeans and the Canadians ship to the United States is NEVER as good as the steel WE produce, especially weapons grade steel, yet there we are, buying our steel from the Chin.

This is WHY it is so important that Donald Trump wins another term and then Mike Pence at least one and hopefully two after him because we require continuity to save our nation’s industries, jobs, language, and culture.   If only the GOP would have stood by him from the very start instead of that prick, Paul Ryan doing everything to sabotage him.  We might have been years ahead in saving our country by now.

Some of my more liberal family members of friends have called me a traitor but here is the deal: BOTH parties must support a pro-American agenda.  We must stop the fighting and bickering as there is blame to go around on both sides.

Yes, Trump can be a bit much but so can Nancy Pelosi and that ghoul Chuck Schumer.  I mean look at that piece of masa, Adam Schiff.  The truth is beginning to come out on that prick and I prophesy by this time next year, he will be out of Congress and possibly in federal prison.

U.S. government, please do the right thing: bring our vital industries home.  Employ Americans.  The more Americans have jobs, the more tax revenue will flow in and we will become free.  Free.  Free from scum like the communist Chinese who want to destroy us.  What better way to do it than to release a disease into our midst and then control the drugs necessary to combat it.

We will meet again later in the year.  I hope the Good Lord is willing and that this Chinese Wuhan Virus doesn’t take me and others whom I care about OUT.  That would suck.  Thank you, China, thank you.  Shame on you.  We will win.

President Trump: BRING OUR VITAL INDUSTRIES HOME NOW!

Hasta la vista, mis amigos- nos reuniremos nuevamente en seis meses.

TODAY IN HISTORY—MARCH 14, 2020

2019: A gunman in Christchurch, New Zealand, live-streamed attacks on two separate mosques murdered at least 49 Muslims and wounded numerous others. The attacker, a 28-year-old white Australian, said he was angry over the massive numbers of Muslims flooding that South Pacific island nation and posted a 74-page, anti-immigrant manifesto online. Most of the Muslims slain died at the first mosque he attacked, the Masjid Al Noor, occurred there around 1:45 p.m. while the second mosque he attacked, the Linwood Masjid Mosque, saw most of the rest killed there. He also attacked some in the street and made sure he finished off wounded Muslims with kill shots. Question: WHY are there so many Muslims in New Zealand? What is wrong with these people?

  50. 2012: The British government releases its unemployment statistics: 2.67 million unemployed, the highest count since 1995.
  51. 2013: A series of car bombings across Baghdad, Iraq, kill 25 and wound 50. Meanwhile, the People’s Republic of China selects Xi Jinping as the new president of their country.
  52. 2014: The West braced for a vote by the Crimean Peninsula to secede from Ukraine; calling the results all but a foregone conclusion, U.S. Secretary of State John “Lurch” Kerry urged Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Parliament against any offer to claim Crimea as their own. Sadly for the Ukrainian people, the plea by the ineffective secretary of state went nowhere. Meanwhile, five cities have submitted bids for the 2022 Winter Olympics: Oslo, Norway; Almaty, Kazakhstan; Beijing, China; Krakow, Poland and L’viv, Ukraine; officials will select the city in July 2015. Meanwhile, the S. plans to let its contract with ICANN expire next year; this would end U.S. authority over the Internet.
  53. 2015: The president of Vanuatu, Baldwin Lonsdale, calls for aid for the island nation after Hurricane Pam blasts through the region, devastating homes across 60 islands, killing 8 people, and injuring many more. According to Brainy History, the full extent of the disaster remains unknown to this day.
  54. 2016: NASA declares February 2016 the warmest month ever in recorded history- 1.35 degrees Celsius above the long-term average. Hence why the liberals continue claiming we have ’10 years’ before it’s all over and done.
  55. 2017: The European Court of Justice announces a ruling that will permit companies to ban employees from wearing religious symbols including- get this- head scarves.
  56. 2018: Stephen Hawking, the best-known theoretical physicist of his time, died at his home in Cambridge, UK, at the age of 76. He had stunned doctors by living with the normally fatal ALS illness for more than half-a-century. Meanwhile, the UK announces that thanks to Putin poisoning a former Russian spy and his daughter on British soil, the government announces the expulsion of 29 Russian diplomats.
  57. 2019: A gunman in Christchurch, New Zealand, live-streamed attacks on two separate mosques murdered at least 49 Muslims and wounded numerous others.

Comrade Bernie says, ‘U.S. will suffer more deaths from the Wuhan Virus than all of World War II’ which is insane- I will take COVID-19 seriously when gov’t begins rounding up and institutionalizing the homeless

Look, no one wants to get ill but here’s the deal: everyone, get the flu shot. Get it every year. Do not miss it, do not put it off, go to your doctor or the county health department or the nearest drug store offering immunizations and get the damned shot.

GET THE FLU SHOT!

WINTER SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,422 AT THE AICP-END

237 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

IF Chinese-caused virus is as bad as Dems claim, we would see Kern County Health Department rounding up the homeless against their will and sanitizing ALL areas inhabited by them…but they’re not

Shafter, CA 93263, 03-14-2020 Saturday: You know, mis amigos, I had the fortune-misfortune to take my lunch in my office on Thursday and there on the TV screen over my desk, I had the displeasure of having to watch geriatric Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, a man who is seeking to win the 2020 presidential nomination of the Democratic Party via hostile takeover, trying to SCARE me. Listening to him- if I did not know better- I would have run to my car, gone straight home, and hidden in the bedroom with my wife, our AR-15 pointed at the bedroom door. But I didn’t.

The enemies of President Donald J. Trump accuse him of all manner of vile and evil things, which is why I have slowly gravitated over to him because everything they accuse him of always turns out to be bogus, untrue, a bunch of crap. Yet, they never give up, they keep on bashing the man una y otra vez which is disgusting.

There was Bernie on the TV screen, gyrating, twitching, trying to scare the hell out of me (please see Today in History March 12, 2020 here at the blog site) by telling me that we will suffer more casualties than all of World War II. He said this virus is sweeping the nation, that health care must be made free and available to everyone as should be meals, energy, you name it, he said everyone deserves it, not just the proverbial wealthy few the liberals despise so much.

Bernie was attempting to act presidential when he came off as an angry old coot, trying to force Marxism upon we, the American people, as though that is the ONLY CURE to the dreaded Wuhan Virus given us by our ‘friends,’ the communist Chinese. If anything, Marxism always makes things worse because the commies murder a good third of the population so they have far less to care for, it is what it is.

Look, no one wants to get ill but here’s the deal: everyone, get the flu shot. Get it every year. Do not miss it, do not put it off, go to your doctor or the county health department or the nearest drug store offering immunizations and get the damned shot.

The reason why I urge you to do this is that is ONE less thing one must worry about. You won’t be sick with the flu and then along comes the Wuhan Virus and that gets you, too, in a weakened immune state and causes moderate to severe additional damage.

I understand there are many people who tremble in fear- usted sabe, temblar de miedo- of getting a shot. It is what it is. What I will say is the shot is fast, relatively painless, and it enables the body to fight off both the stomach and over all flu virus. I mean, why would you not get it, especially if you have rug rats or kids in schools? Everyone understands that most schools- what with loads of illegal alien kids- are breeding grounds for all manner of germs. Get the shot.

We have long encouraged all of our employees to get the flu shots because they miss less work which is good not just for us but for them. We even help them get them if they can’t afford them by sending them with a credit to the nearest CVS, Walgreens, or Rite Aid to get the shot. It could be the difference between life and death.

We also encourage our older employees to get the pneumonia shots as well as hepatitis-A shots because as food preparers and food handlers, it is important that we protect ourselves as much as we possibly can so we can protect our customers. Customers are the lifeblood of any business and they must come first.

In closing, let me say that I agree with my colleagues on this very important point: IF we live in dire times from the Wuhan Virus spreading as the screamers tell us, WHEN I see county and state health authorities rounding up the homeless, the addicted, the winos, and other street denizens and institutionalizing them whether they want it or not and then sanitizing all areas inhabited/infested by them, then I will take things much more seriously than I do now.

However, at the time of this writing, WHAT does that tell you? That government is not really that afraid after all. There you go.

Hasta manana, mis amigos!

As have the rest of my colleagues, local Bakersfield street artist, Simone, created these portraits of me that you will see over successive days here at the blog. I guess Simone did ‘okay’ in capturing my likeness; I guess it could have been worse. I was a young cook back in the early 1960’s when I commenced my culinary career. I served underneath a Master Chef for many years before striking out on my own. I went up the coast of the Western United States and Canada, working all the way, until I made it to Alaska. From there, I moved to Hawaii for a couple of years (1994-1997) before I returned to Washington State and it was there that I met Stinkbug.

  54. 2020: CPUSA candidate, oh wait, he is running as a Democrat, Sen. Bernie Sanders goes to the mics in Burlington, VT, and does his best to scare the hell out of the American people. His solution to the Wuhan Virus, aka COVID-19, a gift from China to the rest of the world all because they took it where the sun don’t shine when they signed the U.S.-China trade deal, is for the American people to immediately embrace Marxism as run and defined by him. Following upon the heels of the NBA canceling its season, the NHL does the same. Major League Baseball has motioned that spring training could be on the rocks, too, if not the entire season. What should be clear to ALL is that the LEFT never lets a good crisis go to waste and anything that will enable them to advance socialism and big government even further is in their wheelhouse. So far, ONLY 39 Americans have succumbed to the Wuhan Virus, most of them in a Washington state nursing home. If you have ever worked in such a facility, you would understand WHY this tragic statistic is so. Of course- according to Bernie and his fellow Democrats, the Trump administration is STUPID and incapable of doing anything to thwart the Chinese-transmitted virus. In the spirit of everything, we encourage the president to postpone the election until ALL is clear.

IF you want to know who bears full responsibility for misery we see in America’s streets, don’t look towards Washington, D.C., no, look to liberal governments such as Sacramento

I have been a student of politics for my entire life. When I was in the kitchen standing next to my dad, shucking hojas and making masa, he used to tell me that politics were not cut and dry, that even though he was a lifelong Democrat, he voted his conscience and never because a local Democratic leader told him to vote this way or that. I followed his lead.

WINTER SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,420 AT THE AICP-END

239 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Trump’s not responsible for the homeless crisis; it’s liberal leadership…

Shafter, CA 93263, 03-12-2020 Thursday:  My wife recorded the Monterey Pop Festival movie that appeared on, uh, I think Turner Classic Movies of all places, so when I arrived home, we sat down and watched it.  Now we know where all the homeless littering the streets came from, mis amigos, they started doing the drugs back in the 1960s and the ancient ones lying alongside dilapidated buildings, along the fences of public parks, the ones staggering up and down the streets begging for change in a cashless world all began back in the 1960s.

Now, I am not criticizing the music because the music was great, superb, never-to-be-repeated, not at least for another century or so.  You know everyone here at the blog is a love of that music, the music of the bands that exploded out of the 1960s and the 1970s- usted sabe, explotó fuera de los 1960s y los 1970s– and for those that were fortunate enough to carry on as far as they could.

While we had some interesting music in the 1980s and 1990s like the techno-pop and the Grunge movements, most of the bands we have the misfortune to now see suck.  They truly suck.  There is no other way for me to put it, they all suck.  I mean, look at Maroon Five, everyone loves criticizing them because they are so horrible.  It’s like Adam Levine, did they somehow castrate that wimpy little prick while he lay kicking and squirming on the delivery table?

The 1960s was a rough time for many of us who survived the decade and the 1970s were even worse as many who were unable to survive the free love, the drugs, the political insanity, were unable to pick up with their lives and to move on.

I think the crisis of homelessness has gone up and down over the decades.  There have been times when there have been more people on the streets and there have been times when there were less.  What I will tell you is that when Republicans are president, there are more on the streets than when Democrats are in the White House but not for the reasons you might suspect or believe.

What I know is that Democrats love it when there is a Republican in the White House and with the economy doing gangbusters, they will point to the homeless, the drug-addicted, the alcoholics, the poor, the illegal, and say, “See: this is what Republicanism is, MISERY.  Stay away from it.”

Well, the economy has been doing quite well until COVID-19 popped up and elected Democrats said, “We can use this to destroy Trump!”  Then they start to work hard to downplay the excellent economic numbers we got at the first of the month and act as though the coronavirus is somehow Trump’s fault.   It’s not; it’s the damned Chinese, they are the ones at fault.

Anyhow, the Democrats- like here in California- LOVE it when people inhabit the streets in rank misery.  They love it when they yank their pants down and start dumping right in front of the schoolkids because then they can point eastward towards Washington, D.C., and blame Trump for THEIR policies.

If you want to know WHO bears total responsibility for the devastating circumstances we see on the streets of our state, it’s Gavin Newsom, it’s Xavier Becerra, it’s Jerry Brown, it’s Dianne Feinstein, it’s Kamala Harris, it’s the government of San Francisco (San Francisco!), the government of Los Angeles, ALL of these liberal west coast Democrats are the ones who bear full responsibility for what we are seeing.

Amigos, I think a tidal wave is coming to California this November.  I think that unless the Democrats can engineer some catastrophe such as invite aliens from Uranus to suddenly begin invading the Earth and blame the invasion on Trump, the man is going to win a MASSIVE re-election and then we can begin the process of cleaning up the streets and doing what is morally correct: helping the homeless whether they want it or not.

THIS is what using the crisis of COVID-19 to best effect will do: rounding up the homeless and deporting the illegals.

Nos vemos, mis amigos!  P.S.: we are going to recall Gavin Newsom one way or the other.
