General Friedrich Paulus had requested ‘freedom of movement,’ meaning if the hedgehog defense failed to contain the Soviets, he wanted to break out with the army to the southwest.  Hitler had told him to hold on and today, Paulus issues the same request to which, the Fuhrer issued a Fuhrer Decree- the highest decree in the Third Reich- ordering Paulus to stay put, that the Sixth Army would be supplied by the Luftwaffe.

  49. 2013 Sunday: The government of Angola’s Ministry for Justice and Human Rights denies that it is closing mosques and has banned Islam from within its borders to stop the spread of Islamist extremism.  They say the mosques are closing because the leaders of Islam have not gone through the legal process of getting their religion approved by the government.  Why can we not do this in the United States of America?  Elsewhere, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu harshly condemned the international community’s nuclear ‘deal’ with Iran, calling it a “historic mistake” and saying he was not bound by the agreement.
  50. 2014 Monday: A grand jury in St. Louis County, Missouri, announces that Officer Darren Wilson will NOT face charges in the shooting death of Michael Brown because he had attacked the officer and would not comply with his demands to surrender.  The announcement causes widespread protests and riots ensue throughout the city of Ferguson where the incident occurred.  Elsewhere, U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel- after criticizing his boss, Barack Obama’s strategy for defeating ISIS, finds himself forced to resign.      
  51. 2015 Tuesday: Friction between Moscow and Kiev increased as the Russians cut off power supplies to 940,000 Ukrainians.  The Ukraine was angry at the seizure of the Crimea by Vladimir Putin’s forces and the Russians promised to cut off more natural gas pipelines as wintry weather arrived.   Meanwhile in Venezuela, opposition leader Luis Diaz is shot and killed ahead of the upcoming elections.  NO one knows who did it.  (Nicolas Maduro’s thugs did it, that’s who).         
  52. 2016 Thursday: Three Turkish soldiers died in a Syrian airstrike in northern Syria leading the Turks to promise retaliation.  Instead of blaming ISIS, they always blame the Kurds and promise retribution.

  55. 2019 Sunday: U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper fired Navy Secretary Richard Spencer after him becoming upset over President Donald J. Trump overruling military brass when he granted clemency to three U.S. service members either accused or convicted of war crimes, including Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher.   Meanwhile, leaked State Department emails seemingly implicate U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as being ‘part of’ or ‘aware of’ the so-called Rudy Giuliani trip to the Ukraine to seek evidence of the corruption of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.  This news came out during the so-called ‘impeachment hearings’ in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Trump says he will ‘never concede’ as long evidence of voter fraud continues coming to light even though he has authorized the GSA to begin the transition process for the incoming ‘Biden-Harris administration.’

The third ‘best of’ compilation by Fairport Convention hit record store shelves on April 13, 1991, “The Woodworm Years.”  The band compiled their 16 best cuts chock full of the crème de la crème of the iconic British folk-rock band.  Friends, if you have yet to introduce the music of this veteran outfit that seems to be able to survive the snakes and ladders of the music business, this is a grand way in which to do it.  Please, seek this one out, give it a good listen, and add it to your growing collection- you will be glad you did.

I began my cooking career in the 1960's when I apprenticed underneath a great chef, Master Chef Ulysses S. Paz. I have lived and worked in Hawaii, Washington State, Arizona, and California. Even though I am in my late 60’s, I am still actively involved at a hotel here in Bakersfield, CA. I make my home in Pumpkin Center, CA.
