Nixon faced off before a national TV audience.  However, mixed were the results: those watching TV felt Kennedy won the debate while those listening to the event on the radio felt Nixon had won the contest.  Meanwhile, Ted Williams, famed homerun hitter, in his last at bat, hits his 521st homerun off Jack Fisher.
  26. 1961 Tuesday: In Norwood, Louisiana, the 5th U.S. Secretary of Defense Charles Erwin Wilson died at age 71.  A Republican, he served under President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 01-28-1953 to 10-08-1957.
  27. 1962 Wednesday: Maury Wills of the Los Angeles Dodgers stole his 100th base during a 13-1 victory over the Houston Colt .45s.  Meanwhile, “The Beverly Hillbillies” premiered on CBS-TV.

  54. 2019 Thursday: The World Health Organization announces that in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 800,000 children will undergo vaccinations for measles over the course of NINE days, an amazing feat to be sure.  The nation had been suffering the worst global outbreak of the disease in years with 3,500 children dead already.
  55. 2020 Saturday: It’s official: New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square will be virtual this year thanks in part to the Chinese Virus.  In Washington, D.C., the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance kicks off with hundreds of thousands in attendance.  Pastor Franklin Graham plans on marching from the Lincoln Memorial down the length of the National Mall to the Capitol Building, praying loudly all the way.  We’re praying for you!  Meanwhile, following yesterday’s questionable crash of a Ukrainian Air Force plane carrying cadets- 22 killed, 2 injured, and 11 missing- President Volodymyr visits the site and demands a thorough accounting of the mishap.  Meanwhile, in Germany hundreds of thousands of Germans protest the fact that coalmining and the use of coal in power plants will not end until the year 2038.  They want it ended NOW.  In neighboring Austria, snowfall comes early with several inches in some areas.   In Iran, President Hassan Rouhani snivels and whines the return of U.S. sanctions and calls it an ‘act of savagery.’  Stop crying
  56. 2020 Saturday A:  It is official: President Donald J. Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to fill the seat vacated by the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  A mother of seven kids- including one special needs and two adopted from Haiti- Democrats are already attacking her Catholicism and demanding to know WHO the adoption agency was.  Word of advice to Judge Barrett: when the sniveling Democrats begin attacking you on ‘DOGMA,’ make sure you point out that the ‘dogma’ of Jesus Christ is far better than the ‘dogma’ of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, Mao Zedong, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, Josef Stalin, Fidel and Raul Castro, Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro.  That ‘dogma’ is not good but the dogma of Jesus Christ, the Holy Mother, Holy Joseph, and the rest of the Catholic Church very much is.  Judge Barrett said, “She loves the United States and she loves the U.S. Constitution.’  God bless you.
  57. 2020 Saturday  B: Folks, here are the numbers for the Xi Jinping Bat Flu- Pelosi Pox:  Here are the statistics for the planet as a whole: 32,636,462 confirmed cases, +239,363, 990,134, confirmed deaths, +4,386, and 22,525,177 confirmed recoveries, +211,908.  Next, here are the stats for the United States, the intended target of the Chinese-engineered Wuhan Virus pandemic: 7,166,392 confirmed cases, UP 58,929 from yesterday’s reporting, 207,689 confirmed deaths, UP 961, and 3,841,532 confirmed recoveries, UP 20,620.  Next, in the three states in which, the world-famous American Institute of Culinary Politics-the Elemental News of the Day employs chef-bloggers- California, Hawaii, and Washington- here are the stats, California first: 806,114 confirmed cases, 15,542 confirmed deaths, and NO MENTION of confirmed recoveries.  Next here are the numbers for Hawaii: 12,039 confirmed cases, 131 confirmed deaths, and 10,126 confirmed recoveries.  Finally, here are the stats for leftist-Marxist-socialist hellhole of Washington: 89,149 confirmed cases, 2,193 confirmed deaths, and NO MENTION of confirmed recoveries.  Let’s look at one other state: Vermont- currently, they have 1,739 confirmed cases, 58 confirmed deaths, and 1,580 confirmed recoveries- thank you, Governor Phil Scott for your state’s honesty in this regard.  Let’s look at Israel’s stats now that Mo is living there: 227,100 confirmed cases, 1,441 confirmed deaths, and 157,137 confirmed recoveries.

Electric Light Orchestra released their tenth ‘best of’ compilation, “The Very Best of the Electric Light Orchestra 2,” on August 12, 1994.  This one contains another 18 classic tunes from later in the group’s career plus some alternate releases such as single mixes of some of the classics.  We do hope you will seek this one out and consider adding it to your collection along with other of their ‘best of’ albums so you can have the best all in one place.  You’ll love it.
