When Donald Trump wins re-election, how about in the second term, he fulfills the promise of erasing the ‘lines’ around the states so every health care insurer could compete and offer a vast variety of plans, affordable to all?

The big argument during the push for Obamacare was that everyone would pay for just about everything in their ACA plans which supposedly was to balance out the costs for every person. Sadly, it failed in this goal as the Affordable Care Act became an albatross around the necks of both employers and consumers because the average costs of plans was much more than they originally were. Ai caramba, mis amigos, que la chingada!

SUMMER SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,596 AT THE AICP-END

60 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Mr. President, one promise you have failed to keep is the removal of the ‘lines’ around every state so every health care insurer could compete

Shater, CA 93263, 09-04-2020 Friday:  For many disgruntled Americans, it is easy to blame President Donald J. Trump for all our ills, when in fact, he has done a mind-blowing job at trying to resurrect America from the ashes of the Chi-Com Virus.  I, like others among my colleagues, have heaped high praise atop the shoulders of Mr. Trump because through everything, he has steamed on like a locomotive, going over all manner of obstacles and always plowing ahead.  Our economy was spectacular, the Obamacare mandate was mandated to the dumps, and had the Republican-controlled House and Senate back in early 2017 not been so hung up on the fact that ‘Trump might have colluded with the Russians,’ we might have seen the entire Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act thrown into the garbage along with the very unpopular mandate.[i]

Most sane people do not want socialized medicine.[ii]  People typically only want it when they have nothing else to use so whatever the politicians are promoting- especially when they say someone else is going to cover the costs, aka FREE- it looks and sounds rather good.   Who wouldn’t jump at FREE?

However, ask anyone on the lowest rung of government-provided health care if they like being on Medicaid and they will tell you, “Hell, no,” because to do so means you are more or less condemning yourself to permanent government management of your entire life from that point forward.  The application asks for all manner of information, do you have a house, a car, a bank account, whatever, and when you die, the managers of Medicaid will basically seize whatever it was you had by way of financial resources to cover whatever bills you had for which, they paid.

All this talk of FREE HEALTH CARE is a red herring as a politician would say, ‘just because you have ‘health care’ does not mean you can either obtain it when you need it or that if you do, it’s worth having.[iii]  Look at the horror stories that come out of the European Union, Canada, or Massachusetts, many times life-saving tests and treatments do not become available until one is well-past the point of saving meaning YOU are going to DIE, most likely in a fair amount of pain.  Is this right?  You tell me!

It would seem that President Trump and the Republicans have worked hard at fixing portions of the health care system such as creating the “Right to Try” act (or whatever it was) so that terminally ill people could throw caution to the winds and take a chance on receiving an experimental drug or treatment in the hope that it would either cure them or prolong their lives.  This is something marvelous for any person suffering from an incurable or possibly curable disease which in addition to they serve as test subjects for those who might follow in their footsteps.

What I would love to see President Trump do is something he promised back in 2015 and 2016, removing the ‘lines’ surrounding various states.  When they talk about ‘lines,’ what they are saying is that every state has but several medical insurance providers within their borders.  This, many believe, was done to limit competition, thus driving prices UP for the consumer and profits for the vendors.

If Congress would remove the ‘lines’ around the states, every health insurer could compete in every state and offer a vast variety of plans.  Instead of young people having to buy a big plan that covers everything including stuff they may never use like health care for opposite sex issues, they could buy a catastrophic health care plan that would kick in should they get injured in a major accident or come down with cancer of the appendix.  Otherwise, they would pay far-lower costs and roll the dice with their health but it would be THEIR choice.

We will discuss this more so please, join me again tomorrow.

As have the rest of my colleagues, local Bakersfield street artist, Simone, created these portraits of me that you will see over successive days here at the blog.  I guess Simone did ‘okay’ in capturing my likeness; I guess it could have been worse.  I was a young cook back in the early 1960’s when I commenced my culinary career.  I served underneath a Master Chef for many years before striking out on my own.  I went up the coast of the Western United States and Canada, working all the way, until I made it to Alaska.  From there, I moved to Hawaii for a couple of years (1994-1997) before I returned to Washington State and it was there that I met Stinkbug.

In 1993, the Flamin’ Groovies released a delightful album with only two musicians listed: Cyril Jordan (guitars/keyboards/vocals) and George Alexander (bass, harmonica, and vocals).  We have no clue if they performed all the instruments or had guests come in and join them.  Say what you will about this garage band extraordinaire, “Rock Juice,” is a wonderful album to behold and to listen to as always, the duo remains true to the heart, spirit, and soul of the rock music of the 1960s. The fact that this band went deep into the 1990s should tell everyone just how great they were, they could rock with the Stones, the Kinks, the Who, the Faces, Humble Pie, and loads and loads of others and on a good night, blow all of them away which is why we love them so much.  Check them out NOW!

FOOTNOTES:

[i] It is sad that this had to been one of the all-time great moments in time, when the American people could free themselves from the onerous restrictions of Obamacare, a ‘thing’ that was never intended to deliver health care to the American people but to restrict still more and to remove money from the middle classes and then redistribute it to the never-do-wells and illegal aliens.  NO ONE I KNOW was ever for giving health care to noncitizens.

[ii] Socialized medicine is what happens when a government crushes capitalism.  IF we allowed every government-approved health care insurer to compete in all 57 states and territories, prices would drop, availability and plans would increase, and the American people would be much better off than they currently are.

[iii] This is the eternal RUB: Just because ‘you have healthcare’ does not mean it’s any good or that it’s available to you . Look at all the crap-hole countries with socialized medicine- North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, Communist China, and other European countries where people have to go on medical safaris to get treated for their problems and at reasonable rates.  NO one in their right mind wants government-provided health care unless it’s senior or military health care and then, there’s always room for improvement.
