Thanks in part to the Chinese Bat Flu, corporate property management companies are snapping up distressed, underwater, or abandoned properties from those who aren’t receiving paychecks whether they work or they don’t

Some of our neighbors are selling their homes at big losses right now while others have had to default and to walk away. The banks will reclaim these houses and then those with money- say, like people who receive paychecks whether they are working or lazing about at home due to the pandemic can rush in, buy the abandoned or below water homes at bargain basement prices, and then become big landowners, landlords, and real estate wheeler-dealers.

SUMMER SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,554 AT THE AICP-END

106 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Something insidious is going on and that is the widening gap between elected politicians and government employees and normal folks like our friends and neighbors who aren’t in one of those capacities…

Wasco, CA 93280, 07-24-2020 Friday:  Call me zany but the more ET and I observe all the NEGATIVES connected to the arrival of the Kung Flu, the more he and I see the hypocrisy in all things.  We understand our party has long wanted to get rid of Donald Trump just as we once did.  Now, however, if Tibe and me don’t want to see him speak, we don’t watch the news but that does not mean that we have not enjoyed the booming economy, loved the fact that our employee and personal investment and retirement accounts have enjoyed unparalleled increases, and celebrated the fact that someone is finally making our country great again.  This has been a long time in coming and the differences between Trump and the leadership of our party is stark.  The Pelosi Democrats celebrate an economy crushed by the Green New Deal[i], a nation beset by manufactured racial strife, and a country at risk to the growing belligerency of Beijing.  None of this makes us happy with our party.

Something else that fails to make us rapturous is the fallout from the Chinese Virus Crisis, you know, the Xi Jinping Bat Flu (I love this euphemism, it’s hilarious[ii]), fallout that seemingly only hurts private sector business owners and employees but not public sector employees, big box chain stores, and certain other businesses deemed to be ‘essential’ such as pot shops[iii], liquor stores, chain drug stores, chain department stores, and jobs employing union workers.

Every day normal business is closed or restricted to one-quarter to one-half capacity- if that- is one day longer that house payments or rent payments go unpaid.  Everyone knows this is a growing problem for average Americans whereas for those who continue receiving paychecks for doing nothing while sitting at home, there is little to no worry.

I remember the last time we had an economic downturn, the Great Recession of 2007-2008, something that hurt many Americans just like the Wuhan Virus is hurting them now.  One of the big problems that instigated the collapse of the economy then is that Wall Street was packaging mortgages into what I believe they labeled as ‘derivatives’ (or some euphemism such as that), no matter they were mortgages being paid on time or ones that had gone into default[iv].

Either way, when the bottom fell out, millions of Americans suffered a devastating hit.  The ‘investments’ into which, they poured good money turned out to be worthless and brought on the economic collapse.

At the time, however, there was NO government shutdown over anything and millions of people were working whereas now, millions of Americans are not working and mortgages and rents are going unpaid, especially once the relief runs out.

Our house is paid for and we have enough money in the bank to cover property taxes, gas and electricity, homeowners and auto insurance, and the like.  However, millions of others do not and when the money stops flowing in via government redistribution schemes funded by printed paper money, millions of mortgages are going to slip into default.

This is not healthy for the country or its people but you had better believe it’s going to happen.  For all the protestations, for all the reviling of the wealthy, and for all the vilification of anyone possessing money, stocks, bonds, and/or property, these people are going to be the ones snapping up all these properties and then either reselling them for huge profits down the road or becoming big landlords, using property management firms to keep the boots on the necks of the renters.[v]

Tibe and I recognize the opportunities and could very well begin buying some properties for rental purposes later.  I mean, why would we not?  However, most of the low-cost properties at bargain basement prices will fall into the hands of big corporate investors while those who have been forced to sell or to abandon their homes and apartments will only find themselves farther and farther behind the proverbial eight-ball.

Tell me this isn’t by design.  Tell me that.

God bless you all, see you tomorrow.

This is a cartoon caricature of me when I was working at a restaurant in Wasco, CA, my hometown.  The up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist Simone did portraits of each of us here at the blog so I hope you like them as much as I, ahem, do.  Ah, well, I joined the Chefs de Cuisine of Greater Bakersfield, ACF, not long after it was chartered and am still a member even though the chapter is no longer in operation.  I began working in foodservice in the late 1960’s, moved from Wasco, CA, to Monterey, CA, and then returned to my hometown in 2004.  I have been a food server, a Mixologist, and am a Certified Cook.  I am equally at home in both the kitchen and behind the bar (and on the floor, too).  My passions are numerous, and my favorite is working in the bakery whenever I have had a chance.

FOOTNOTES:

[i] I do not spend much time studying policy but the Green New Deal is not only idiotic but daft, foolish, and bizarre.  I have slammed AOC before as the ditz she is so it’s not a shock to anyone that I would label her stupid now.

[ii] The Xi Jinping Bat Flu has to be among the more fitting names for the COVID-19 virus crisis.  Comrade Xi knows what was going on in Wuhan because you don’t lock your country down, sealing off Wuhan Province, while permitting two-million Chinamen to travel throughout the rest of the world.  The Bat Flu was created in Chinese labs and then dispatched to the rest of the world to cripple us.  I look forward to the day we liberate mainland China.  FREE the Chinese people.

[iii] Someone please tell me HOW a pot shop or a liquor store is ‘essential’ while my church or the churches of millions of other Americans are NOT essential?  We are traveling out into the rural lands to listen to our pastor preach the Word of God.  We will not be denied our religious needs because we have a closet homosexual in Gavin Newsom in Sacramento.

[iv] I am beginning to suspect that leadership of my party at the time helped engineer the collapse through forcing banks to make loans to everyone, even if they could not prove they could handle a mortgage.  That was not right.

[v] We would not be surprised to learn that the communist Chinese themselves will be among those gobbling up auctioned properties thus becoming landlords themselves.  They will use strawman purchasers but will become vast property owners just as they have been buying up our food-processing companies, and either running them here or relocating them there.  The time is NOW to throw the Chinese out of our country, hence why we are voting for Trump in November.
