While not always a fan of Trump the man, we are fans of a return to normalcy, a return to law and order, a return to business as usual, and a return to the exercise of personal liberties and personal responsibilities

We think things should return to normal as quickly as possible. After all, we have never slammed the doors shut on either our economy or our society at any other period of epidemic or pandemic so why now? To cause angst in the nation? To force people into voting for “Happy Hands Joe?” Please. That is insane. Joe Biden cannot dress himself so how is an old codger (I am a bit younger than he) such as him going to ‘fix the problems’ we are now living with? There is no way.

SUMMER SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,553 AT THE AICP-END

107 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Gavin Newsom slammed the door shut in Kern County yet again; how about letting us decide for ourselves what risks we are willing to take?

Wasco, CA 93280, 07-23-2020 Thursday:  No sooner were we able to reopen our business then Governor Gavin Newsom, Democrat, ordered us to shut down yet again, all because of the specter of COVID-19.  While it is true that the numbers are somewhat increasing, it’s not like what it was and when combined with increased testing, Holy Moly, there you go, a ‘spike’ that warrants a return to hunkering down in the bunker as the shells and shot explode overhead, showering us with red hot shrapnel.  If we do not go out and engage this laboratory-manufactured disease and soon, you can kiss the Golden State bon voyage and soon.

We also received word this past Tuesday that for the first time in its more than 100-plus years history, the Kern County Fair, a 10-day festival running through the end of September through the first week of October, will also be closed.  Even during World War II and other periods of conflict, the fair was always up and running whereas now, thanks to the communist Chinese, there will be NO fair for anyone.[i]

This is bad because many local restaurant owners own and operate food booths at the annual fair.  I am sure it’s the same in your neck of the woods because this is what foodservice owners and operators do, we combine with various local charities, run all manner of food emporiums where fairgoers can get everything from footlong corndogs to two-pound cheeseburgers to funnel cakes to deep-fried cheese, pickles, pork chops (on a stick!), even deep-fried Pepsi-Cola®[ii], items available nowhere else for the rest of the year.

Back to the viral aspect of the story, Tibe and me are at the age where IF we contract the Wuhan Virus, we could very well sicken and die yet we think it is absolutely ludicrous to have everything closed down, everyone cowering in their homes, hoping against hope that none of them or us will get the ‘novel coronavirus.’  This is crazy.  This is preposterous.  It also is outrageous and it must stop.  If we do not go out in public and take our chances, this disease is NEVER going to disappear unless we come up with a preventative or a prophylactic as they call it.

We heard that hydroxychloroquine is a superb deterrent yet for some reason because it works, because it’s cheap, and because President Trump has both recommended it and used it himself to ward off the Bat Flu, the ‘powers that be’ have ordered California physicians not to prescribe it for off label purposes.  Why this is, no one knows, but if it works, then let us have it, please.  It’s our lives, after all.[iii]

Besides the Kern County Fair, we hear, too, that schools most likely will not reopen in the fall.  As parents of grandchildren, we know our kids and their spouses want their progeny back in school.  Not only will their return to school aid their parents, it also aids the children.

If less educated folks like Tibe and me know that children require socialization with other children, especially if kids are only kids, single youngsters living without brothers and sisters, they can suffer irreparable damage to their immature psyches.  To prevent young kids from interacting with one another is to increase the trauma they might otherwise not have to live with so to my husband and me, it seems as though this is a deliberate attempt to cripple less secure kids for some unknown reason.  The question is, “Why?”[iv]

We think things should return to normal as quickly as possible.  After all, we have never slammed the doors shut on either our economy or our society at any other period of epidemic or pandemic so why now?  To cause angst in the nation?  To force people into voting for “Happy Hands Joe?”[v]  Please.  That is insane.  Joe Biden cannot dress himself so how is an old codger (I am a bit younger than he) such as him going to ‘fix the problems’ we are now living with?  There is no way.

We are NOT always fans of President Donald J. Trump[vi] as a man but we are fans of a return to normalcy, a return to law and order, a return to business as usual, and a return to the exercise of personal liberties and responsibilities.  If there isn’t a return to any of this and soon, we fear there will be nothing left for any of us to return to.

Let me know what YOU think.  God bless, we will meet again tomorrow.

This is a cartoon caricature of me when I was working at a restaurant in Wasco, CA, my hometown.  The up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist Simone did portraits of each of us here at the blog so I hope you like them as much as I, ahem, do.  Ah, well, I joined the Chefs de Cuisine of Greater Bakersfield, ACF, not long after it was chartered and am still a member even though the chapter is no longer in operation.  I began working in foodservice in the late 1960’s, moved from Wasco, CA, to Monterey, CA, and then returned to my hometown in 2004.  I have been a food server, a Mixologist, and am a Certified Cook.  I am equally at home in both the kitchen and behind the bar (and on the floor, too).  My passions are numerous, and my favorite is working in the bakery whenever I have had a chance.

FOOTNOTES:

[i] On average, the Kern County Fair brings in half-a-million visitors every year so at $10 per ticket to come in, that’s around $5 million.  Granted, there are all manner of associated costs but still, for a county fair in California, that is pretty doggone good.

[ii] What we do is we pour soda into flour making big pools then pop them into the freezer.  At cooking time, we pull out the frozen floured shards, dump them into the fryer and then into a cup.  Eat ‘em while they are hot.

[iii] We believe the only reason as to WHY it is difficult to obtain Plaquenil, aka Hydroxychloroquine, is because the president touted it.  If we look at information compiled in other countries, it seems that lower doses of the drug have worked wonders on those afflicted with this Chinese pandemic.  Let us have it.

[iv] The more we observe the hypocrisy in all things, the more our eyes open.  It seems that to get the 45th president out of the White House, the Democratic Party is willing to damage younger kids, just so long as it accomplishes the main goal.  This is not right and it must end NOW.

[v] Everyone knows the former vice president loves putting his hands on women and worse, younger girls.  This is creepy.  Someone must bring it up before the election cycle goes much farther.

[vi] President Trump can drive people crazy but the more I see what we’ve lost since the arrival of the pandemic closed everything down, the more success I see he achieved for everyone, not just Republicans.  We want the roaring economy back ASAP.

The up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist Simone did portraits of each of us here at the blog so I hope you like them as much as I, ahem, do. The important thing for us as foodservice business owners is that we protect our identities because in the age of the Cancel Culture, IF Marxist punks leads boycotts against us, it can destroy businesses that have been around for years, if not decades.
