Dumbbells like Joe and Jim DeMarco are what keeps employers up late at night because thoughtless actions like theirs can cause adverse effects for our businesses

The brothers- Joe and Jim DeMarco- thought they were being funny, hilarious, real gut-busting stuff. Well, no one took it that way including me. Brother Joe works as a prison guard in the state and his higher-ups suspended him pending a full investigation into the matter. Brother Jim worked at FedEx but his employer decided to cut losses and sent him packing as I would have.

SPRING SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,513 AT THE AICP-END

146 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Every employer knows problem workers like Joe and Jim DeMarco

Arvin, CA 93203, 06-13-2020 Saturday:  Sadly, the world is full of morons, morons are everywhere.  They surround us.  They walk among us.  Occasionally, they work for us and when we determine them to be irredeemable morons, we tend to send them on their way with not only their wages but a farewell package of an extra week’s pay so they won’t go down to the Labor Board and begin crying up a storm.

This past Wednesday, we had the misfortune to watch a pair of white brothers, wearing Trump merchandise, with banners fluttering in the wind, do something entirely stupid.

The depraved act of which, I speak occurred on Sunday in Franklinville, New Jersey, an act I only saw several days later on the news.  As people marched in memory of poor George Floyd, these two imbeciles reenacted the murder of Mr. Floyd, telling the marchers as they filed past, ‘this is what happens when you don’t comply with the law’ or some stupid piece of duck droppings such as that.

Employers such as me have more problems with our staff than ever as in the age of social media, we cannot help but be aware of what our workers are doing in their off-time.  A pair of dumbbells like the DeMarco Brothers can cause a load of unnecessary and/or unwanted problems by doing something as incredibly ignorant as this pair did.

It drives bosses crazy, because we are going about our business by having an enticing dining environment with fabulous menus, and top-notch floor and kitchen staff and one busboy says something marginally racist online and next thing you know, I am having to shag questions about something up until a minute or two ago, I had no clue.

Now, I am one who believes that Twitter is a lost land of BIG NAMES and LITTLE NOTHINGS.  People who are something can tweet away all day and night and others who think they are something can do the same and no one pays them any attention or if they cross the line, find their accounts suspended.  The way I see it, Twitter is like a mirror for those in government, entertainment, or professional sports to field their views while others trying to be like them are little fish in a great big ocean.   Why bother?

Besides, why should I be the one facing a loss of business because some loser worker says something or does something that ignites anger in the engine of social media.  Next thing you know, people are mad at me, telling me that “I should have known what my bar back said on Facebook.  What am I going to do about it?”

What I do about it is to tell my employees in the handbook that they had better be extremely careful when they are hitting away at the keys on social media.  I could care less if it’s Twitter, Facebook, MeWe, Reddit, Instagram, or anything else, you say some dumbass thing, everyone knows where you work, and then when people start coming to me or worse, we begin losing business, you had better believe not only am I going to fire you, I am going to sue you, too.

I think in the course of our lives, everyone knows dimwits like Joe and Jim DeMarco.  It happens on both sides of the political divide.  However, since most social media leans left, we generally only hear negative news about folks on the other side of the divide, like the DeMarco Brothers.  You would think that one of them might have been smart enough to know that if you are going to mock people protesting the unfair loss of life at the hands of a belligerent cop, you might not do it in the way you did.

Then again, the educational system has long failed the past 2-3 generations and idiots abound, everywhere.  I fear for the future of the country.  One side wants to abolish cops and the other wants to mock genuine pain felt by the loss of someone to an extremely unfair system at times.

Join me tomorrow and we will wrap up the week.  God bless.

This is a facsimile of me as a young chef back in the 1960’s when I was working as a sous chef at a fine dining restaurant, the Victor Hugo, over on the coast around Newport, California.  I began my career working as a pot washer at the age of 10, move to washing dishes in 1958, became a chef’s apprentice in 1961 and have been a career professional ever since.  I am still involved in professional foodservice as a consultant for food and beverage professionals.  Famed Bakersfield street artist Simone created the cartoonish figure of me, which appears to be ‘me’ but I hope I look better than how he portrayed me.  You are the judge.
