Until Democrats are willing to disengage themselves from public sector unions, there is no point in putting forward one police reform bill after another- it’s all for show

I love the Democratic Party of old, one that stood for the working class, minorities, women, Big Labor, and for peace and not the current one that seems to feel groupthink and propaganda is more important than actually doing the business of the American people.

SPRING SESSION 2020

BLOG POST #3,509 AT THE AICP-END

150 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Perhaps shutting down normal life in California was more about politics than in fear of the Chinese Bat Flu Virus?

Arvin, CA 93203, 06-09-2020 Tuesday: As I told you yesterday, my eyes are NOW WIDE OPEN when it comes to the hypocrisy my party continues to employ as its foundation. I told you that I find the actions of Governor Gavin Newsom to be extremely distressing, inconsiderate, and damned straight insensitive, Newsom is little more than a mediocre politician at best, an inept loser at worst, who has kept his boot atop the necks of Golden State businesses for far too long now.

He has maintained this unprecedented control via citing the Chinese Bat Flu as his number one reason to maintain the oppressive shutdown,. Most of us in this state are Democrats, we vote democratic election after election, but we also rely on customers entering our doors so we can pay taxes to local, state, and federal authorities. Without money coming in, many of us are struggling to reopen our doors at all, much less to keep them open. Does Sacramento have any desire to help us?

I think we now understand that for some COVID-19 can be a death sentence while for many, it is little more than a mild flu at worst or a troubling cold at best. Therefore, WHY force everyone to cringe indoors, away from family, friends, neighbors, employees, and customers when for most, it is a personal choice as to whether we are willing to risk exposure in the normal every day pursuit of our lives.

After all, Sweden shut down nothing, relying upon the common sense of the Swedish people to determine whether they would or would not go about their daily lives.

If people felt uncomfortable going out in public due to having pre-existing health conditions that might put them at risk, then they could choose to remain home. In so doing, they had a somewhat lesser amount of cases and fatalities so why would the same attitudes not have worked here in the United States in general and in California in particular?

When protests broke out over the death of George Floyd a couple of weeks ago, it suddenly appeared that avoiding fellow human beings due to the possibility of getting the coronavirus went out the window as protesting what the white cop did to the black man mattered more than protecting the public health.

That being the case, millions of Californians believe we could have kept our businesses open, just increasing the normal every day sanitary and hygiene actions every business is required by law to do in order to protect everyone within our doors. After all, every foodservice operation no matter the level has to follow stringent rules with which to protect the public health so why are we unable to continue doing it?

In undergoing this eye-opening experience, I now understand that much of what my political party has fed me since my teens is questionable. Don’t get me wrong, I will never stop being a Democrat but the Democratic Party has left me, not I, them. Until they are able to act independently of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and every Democrat politician can exercise his or her opinion as how to go about doing the business of the American people, I can no longer support them without questions or debate.

I love the Democratic Party of old, one that stood for the working class, minorities, women, Big Labor, and for peace and not the current one that seems to feel groupthink and propaganda is more important than actually doing the business of the American people.

Ergo, Nancy Pelosi has this bill to rein in the cops but until Democrats are willing to separate themselves from public employees unions- like the Fraternal Order of Police unions around the country, she can talk all she wants but nothing is going to change, it’s all for show.

Hypocrisy such as this is WHY I now have more questions than answers. However, until both parties are willing to cross the aisle and to work with one another on the prominent issues, there is not much point for pushing forward one lackluster bill after another when it’s all about soundbites and gotcha and besides- NO one in his or her right mind will get rid of the police. NO one.

See you tomorrow.

This is a facsimile of me as a young chef back in the 1960’s when I was working as a sous chef at a fine dining restaurant, the Victor Hugo, over on the coast around Newport, California. I began my career working as a pot washer at the age of 10, move to washing dishes in 1958, became a chef’s apprentice in 1961 and have been a career professional ever since. I am still involved in professional foodservice as a consultant for food and beverage professionals. Famed Bakersfield street artist Simone created the cartoonish figure of me, which appears to be ‘me’ but I hope I look better than how he portrayed me. You are the judge.
