Just the Facts: no matter what the belligerent left says about American military members- including those who fought for the Confederacy- this is the day in which, we honor ALL of them

I remember my father talking about his service on rare occasions, usually after he had been drinking heavily.  His middle brother Dennis was among the few casualties in the operation and it left a heavy mark on him.  He and Alvin continued on from there and spent time overseeing the border between Spain’s North African colony and French North Africa before fighting some actions in Tunisia.  From there, they participated in the landings in Sicily.

MEMORIAL DAY 2019

Today, we remember ALL our war dead, including those who fought in unpopular wars or on the side of the Confederacy

San Luis Obispo, CA, 05-27-2019 Monday:  Memorial Day means many things to many people but for my family, it is a day we remember our family members who have gone before us.  My father, James and his two brothers, Dennis and Alvin, enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1942 and served overseas in the 9th Infantry Division.  The three of them served in the same unit and participated in Operation Torch, the invasion of French North Africa.

I began my career as a young chef in the kitchen back in 1975, earlier than that. I apprenticed underneath my father and spent six years working for him in his British-Irish restaurant in Fresno, California. I later moved to Frazier Park, California, and spent quite a few years working in the area and that is where I met Stinkbug. Anyhow, I am now working at a country club over on the coast near San Luis Obispo. Please note: this is my pen name and any photos of me are simply outdated photos adopted for maintaining my privacy. Above, you see the caricature created for me by Bakersfield street artist, the amazing Simone. We have gone this route because of increasing threats against the blog and its members.
