Just the Facts: while I believe in Climate Change, I respect those who don’t which is why I contend that ALL voices have a right to be heard and that Google Blogger does not ghost them

I, for one, am not shaken in my beliefs just because Mo, El Pedro, Jimmy Hall, Murph, and Chef Z posted a GREEN SWASTIKA as an attention-grabbing photo designed to get people to check out the Sunday blog post. It is what it is, no one should run crying to the good people at Google Blogger screaming and howling like immature little brats that somehow a green Nazi flag is ‘sexually explicit.’ On what flipping planet do you live?

FALL SESSION 2018

BLOG POST #2,964 AT THE AICP-END

693 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Are we who believe in Climate Change not secure enough to let opposing voices be heard?

Arvin, CA, 12-12-2018 Wednesday: This past Sunday, Chef Pedro kicked off a firestorm of recrimination from Google Blogger, our sometime hosts, when he wrote a post negative of Climate Change-Global Warming/Cooling.  The firestorm carried over to the three Google Plus pages run by Chefs Z, Murph, and Jimmy Hall as well as by Mo who also shares links to our posts on his Google Plus page as well as our Facebook page.

For some reason- and note, I disagree with the imagery- the posting of a GREEN NAZI FLAG as a negative symbol denoting how some see environmentalists and their demands for doing something about Climate Change NOW- led to their posts being pulled and emails citing the issue of them being ‘sexually explicit.’

Now, I have no clue how a Green Swastika Flag is somehow ‘sexually explicit?’  I did not realize that a swastika is somehow a ‘sexual wrongdoing’ just as I believe EVERYONE should have the right to say whatever they choose online at social media sites unless, of course, they are TRULY calling for violence on someone, which my colleagues were NOT.

The issue of Climate Change is extremely important, I believe we have ONLY so much time to do something to right the wrongs humankind has done to our home planet.  However, I also believe that people have a right to express skepticism because there have been events such as the release of the purloined emails from the East Anglia University in Great Britain that cast a great deal of doubt on the topic.

A strong believer in saving the planet, I do NOT believe we should cast critics of the science into prison.

Moreover, I do not believe we should censor them no more than I think we should pull down their posts, their comments, their social media shares, you name it, if we are as secure in our belief that doom faces our planet, then let those who dispute it have a say, too.  Is this not what the free expression of ideas and comments is all about, sharing them with everyone, no matter how uneducated or ludicrous they sound?

I, for one, am not shaken in my beliefs just because Mo, El Pedro, Jimmy Hall, Murph, and Chef Z posted a GREEN SWASTIKA as an attention-grabbing photo designed to get people to check out the Sunday blog post.  It is what it is, no one should run crying to the good people at Google Blogger screaming and howling like immature little brats that somehow a green Nazi flag is ‘sexually explicit.’  On what flipping planet do you live?

Now, I believe our planet is in a crisis, one caused by the Industrial Revolution and everything since then that has added pollutants into the atmosphere the likes of which, our planet has not seen and which draconian measures must occur as long as they affect everyone equally alike.

Yes, apparently, when the dinosaurs ruled the planet, there was great concentrations of oxygen in the atmosphere that many scientists have said enabled the prehistoric beasts to grow as large and as fearsome as they did.  Yet, those beasts disappeared, possibly by an extraterrestrial impact off the Yucatan Peninsula in the dim dark past.

They also could have fallen prey to a changing climate, the degradation of their environment, one that the geological record demonstrates on several occasions over the course of the planet’s history to have occurred.  What’s more, we are close to a time of the next mass extinction event, one that has the potential to erase humankind from the planet, which is why we must work hard at preventing such an incident, one from which, we have no hope of recovery.

I will say one thing about the dangers we face as a planet and that is many times, I believe our politicians (and I hate to say this but the Democrats are extremely guilty of this) is that we employ the issue as a club over their heads to pass harsh policies that may not work.

Add to that the fact that when then-Senator Barack Obama was running for the presidency, he promised all sorts of green programs that would create millions of jobs for the American people, yet, when it came to delivering on those jobs, they were nowhere to be found.  Why was that?

Yes, one of his claims to everlasting fame was to negotiate and sign the Paris Climate Accord.  However, that historical monumental document OBVIOUSLY left much to be desired.  I mean, look at what has been going on across France.  Why is it the middle and lower classes are the ones who have to suffer while the wealthy and the uber-rich go about their business as though nothing will alter their lifestyles.

If we are going to save our planet, EVERYONE must be onboard.  The wealthy must pay the majority of the taxes associated with saving the planet and not those in the middle and lower-income classes as that simply is not fair.

As in France, people will go berserk here in the United States.  California already has the most expensive gasoline prices anywhere in the country and to add another 3-4 dollars per gallon to them would set off an explosion the likes of which, our country has not seen.

People are willing to strive for progress and to work hard to secure the future of the planet.  However, if the wealthy escape- as they do in almost everything- and the less-fortunate have to foot the bill, we will see the same kinds of problems as the people who do the physical work of making the country run cannot afford to foot the bill that the wealthy can pay at the drop of a hat.

Please, join me over at the secondary blog and then be back here tomorrow when we pick up at the mid-point of the week for the chef-bloggers who make this site work.  Also, we appreciate Google Blogger doing what they do; it would be nice if they would permit ALL voices to be heard unless, of course, they are calling for ACTUAL, physical violence.

This is a facsimile of me as a young chef back in the 1960’s when I was working as a sous chef at a fine dining restaurant, the Victor Hugo, over on the coast around Newport, California.  I began my career working as a pot washer at the age of 10, move to washing dishes in 1958, became a chef’s apprentice in 1961 and have been a career professional ever since.  I am still involved in professional foodservice as a consultant for food and beverage professionals.  Famed Bakersfield street artist Simone created the cartoonish figure of me, which appears to be ‘me’ but I hope I look better than how he portrayed me.  You are the judge.

The Doors record label released another ‘best of’ compilation on August 12, 2003,” “Legacy: the Absolute Best.”  Once again, we find a fine selection of hits here for both the veteran and the novice listener.  This is perhaps one of the greatest bands to literally explode out of the mid-1960s and could have gone so far had not the lead singer overdosed on drugs while on hiatus in Paris.   We wholeheartedly recommend it and urge the readership to use the link we provide you here so you can visit Amazon.com.  Once there, pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you- you will be glad you did.

Now on Andrew Loog Oldham’s Immediate label, the Small Faces released their third album and their second self-titled album, “Small Faces” (June 23, 1967).  This effort was a slightly different version than the U.S. version, which will be the next album presented by the band tomorrow.  This album was somewhat ‘more English’ than the harder-rocking and slightly more psychedelic American cousin.  Great music on this album with the same lineup of Steve Marriot (guitars, vocals), Ronnie Lane (bass and vocals), Ian McLagan  (keyboards and vocals) and Kenney Jones (drums).  Stupendous effort, one we urge everyone to pick up simply by using the link we provide you here so you can visit Jeff Bezos’ Amazon.com, the world’s greatest online marketplace.  Once there, you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you.  Thank you for your patronage.
